Sheppard Street Antiques is hosting an estate sale beginning today, April 25. Doors opened at 9 a.m. at the treasure-filled shop in Carytown.
“Every sale has its own story behind it,” says Sheppard Street’s Amanda Riley. The sale features items from the estate of Kitty Edwards, a member of a prominent Northern Neck family. From what I’m told, Kitty was quite a character. “She loved being pretty and wearing her mink coat,” Riley says.
I got a sneak peak at many of the estate pieces and there’s plenty to excite lovers of traditional design. There’s a trove of sterling silver, china and crystal decanters; a 19th century sideboard and chest; a large collection of Meissen porcelain; and a pearl-colored damask Chippendale sofa ($795, above). I’m taken with an antique steamer truck with a monogram and some of Kitty’s lovely gilded mirrors, especially one with an eagle.
Get there early for first dibs.
