For internationally celebrated designer and native Richmonder Charlotte Moss, beauty can be found everywhere you look — you just have to look. On Oct. 9, Moss will join her good friend Margot Shaw, founder and editor-in-chief of Flower Magazine, for On Beauty: An Afternoon and Evening With Charlotte Moss & Margot Shaw, two events benefiting The Branch Museum of Design.
Moss is an award-winning interior designer, author and philanthropist whose timeless interiors have garnered international recognition for more than four decades. Shaw has built one of the country’s most beloved lifestyle publications, celebrating everything floral and the beauty of everyday life. Together, they embody a shared commitment to beauty, craftsmanship and gracious living.
“[Design] is personal,” Moss says, “but it’s also about opening your eyes and seeing beauty in so many different things. It’s slowing down and just identifying things that resonate with your personal aesthetic.”
Shaw says design is about searching for and discovering elements that inspire one’s personal creativity. “It can be magical. It’s about distilling the world around us and … getting off your phone,” she adds. “It’s inspiration.”
The afternoon begins at 2 p.m. at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, with an engaging conversation between Moss and Shaw about the eternal hunt for beauty, where they find inspiration and how it makes life richer. The discussion will offer an intimate look into their creative philosophies and personal experiences, as well as how those ideas are reflected in their newest books, “Charlotte Moss: At Home in Virginia” and “Flowering Outdoors.” Moss and Shaw will greet guests during a book signing following the program.
The celebration of design, presented by Maison Vie, continues at 6:30 p.m. with an exclusive culinary event for 70 guests. Held in The Branch Museum’s main gallery, the evening will feature cocktails, a seated dinner and special remarks from Moss and Shaw as guests of honor.
The events are ticketed separately. Find tickets and more information at maisonvie.style.
