It's a new twist on an old pastime for brides-to-be: Instead of floating from booth to booth under fluorescent lights to collect pamphlets from potential vendors at an all-day expo, brides-to-be will gather ideas by being chauffeured to five different upscale venues to view mock receptions.
As the media sponsor of The Wedding Crashers Tour, put on by Richmond Wedding Collective, Richmond Bride has the inside scoop on what you can expect. (We might be a little bit biased, but it sounds pretty fun to us!) Here's how the day will go down:
After meeting at the John Marshall on the morning of Sunday, February 22, the guests will be split into five groups -- each starting at a different venue in the lineup: Maymont, Dover Hall Estate, The Bull and Bear Club, The Virginia Center for Architecture, and the John Marshall Ballrooms.
While at each venue, brides and their buddies will have the chance to set up appointments with vendors stationed at each location, from wedding planners to photographers to bakeries.
"Many bridal events aren't the best representation for some vendors, and this experience offers an alternative for them and for the brides who might want to hire them," explains Myra Watkins, Director of Richmond Wedding Collective.
Watkins also promises that guests will be able to enjoy plenty of food, treats, and libations, all while getting a classic taste of Richmond.
"We're working with historical locations and we think it will feel like a mini tour through Richmond," Watkins continues. "It will be fun for anyone in Richmond, but we think it will be especially helpful for out-of-towners trying to plan a Richmond wedding. Guests will see RVA from the top, from the gardens, the countryside..."
Tickets are only available until the end of Saturday, February 14th. So, what if you get engaged on Valentine's Day?
"Then you have until 11:59 p.m. to buy a ticket!" Watkins cheekily replies.
