On Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. at Virginia Repertory Theatre, Artober forum Create the Vote corrals a panel of Richmond mayor candidates as Richmond Times-Dispatch columnist Michael Paul Williams moderates a public discussion about the arts’ role in the mayoral vision for the city.
Terry Menefee Gau, of Artober’s parent organization CultureWorks, hopes the event fuels participation in the region’s 150 arts and culture groups. 2012 National Endowment for the Arts data concludes two-thirds of Americans don’t go to an arts or cultural event in a given year. “By attending [arts] events, we become related to each other through these experiences.”
