Kanawha Plaza is setting the stage for the Violent Femmes’ 45th anniversary tour. On Sept. 23, the alt-rock icons will bring their unique sound to the River City as part of the Live Loud concert series, which will include draft beer, canned cocktails and food trucks on-site.
Formed in 1981 in Milwaukee by Gordon Gano, Brian Ritchie and Victor DeLorenzo, the band shook up the nation’s underground music scene with a blend of punk, folk-rock and a healthy dose of teenage angst, producing hits like “Blister in the Sun” and “Add It Up.” A year after their debut, The New York Times called their original sound and compositional approach a “rarity” — 45 years on, they’re still delivering.
The concert kicks off at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $62.
Due to the weather, the sold-out Violent Femmes concert tonight, Sept. 23, has been moved to The National. All previously issued tickets will be honored at the door.
