Creating a believable character who seems real enough to cast a shadow isn't necessarily a matter of physicality. It's about what goes on inside their imagined heads. Hence, this month's topic of The Writing Show, held June 26 by the James River Writers: "Putting Your Character on the Couch; Psycho-Analyze Your Fiction." It will be at the Broadberry, with author Gigi Amateau ( Come August, Come Freedom ) serving as host. The panel of writers includes Henrico County resident Jon Sealy, whose recently released first novel, The Whiskey Baron , was praised by Kirkus Reviews as "a near-flawless effort by a writer to watch," and Cleve Lamison, whose Random House digital debut novel, a fantasy young adult story titled Full-Blood Half-Breed , is also recently available. Ted Petrocci, a psychotherapist, rounds out the discussion. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. $10 in advance, $12 at the door ($5 for students). 433-3790 or
