Lucid Frame Productions for Virginia Opera
A new production of Sweeney Todd, the Tony Award-winning Stephen Sondheim musical about a murderous barber and his pie-making partner in crime, will make its East Coast premiere as it opens Virginia Opera’s 40th anniversary season. “What’s really cool about Sweeney Todd is that it has a full live orchestra of almost 40 instruments,” says Howard Bender, vice president of Central/Northern Virginia operations. Directing the show is Ron Daniels, who co-wrote the stage adaptation that inspired the musical, with Adam Turner of Virginia Opera conducting. 8 p.m. on Oct. 3, 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the Carpenter Theatre, Richmond CenterStage. $20 to $106.
