At its best, Boston ensemble Quilt perfectly balances its pop proclivities with a batch of new-millennium psychedelia.
“Plaza,” the band’s second full-length for the Mexican Summer imprint, might arrive stitched with string accompaniment in places. But the abstruse embellishment of “Eliot St.” is easily counterweighted by the exacting execution of “Searching for.” It’s not quite alchemy, but combining an indie-world guitar stalwart and a singer who performed at Carnegie Hall during her childhood is bound to churn out sterling results.
