Mavis Staples and her sisters and father, known collectively as the Staple Singers, have brought their vocal brilliance to gospel, soul and R&B for five decades, and are even credited with teaching members of The Band how to sing harmony.
These days, Staples has collaborated with Wilco's Jeff Tweedy on her last two solo albums, You Are Not Alone and One True Vine, and on Pops Staples' last album, Don't Lose This, released this year. She also stopped by CBS' The Late Show for host Stephen Colbert's debut in September.
On Nov. 15, Staples comes to Richmond with Joan Osborne on Their collaborative "Solid Soul" tour. 7:30 p.m., University of Richmond's Camp Concert Hall. $45. modlin.richmond.edu.
