It’s tempting to define Chicago’s Second City as the Triple-A farm club of Saturday Night Live. After all, John Belushi, Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Gilda Radner and other famous SNL alumni got their start with the famed improvisational comedy troupe. But that diminishes the reach and influence of this venerable company (and school) of wiseacres. For its 50th anniversary show, Second City Hits Home, the touring company has been offering audiences a program of jokes, skits and absurdities, straight from the hometown headlines. In Richmond, we can expect jokes about minor league ballparks, disappearing city administrators and gubernatorial misdeeds. Watch as Second City cracks on River City at the University of Richmond’s Modlin Center for the Arts on Jan. 15 and 16. 7:30 p.m. $36. 289-8980 or modlin.richmond.edu.
