Every October since 2005, the city has become a crossroads for global musical traditions. During the Richmond Folk Festival, Oct. 9-11, more than 30 performing groups will take the spotlight on six stages, surrounded by craft marketplaces, family activities, food trucks and craft beer vendors.
“The lineup this year is outrageously good,” says Stephen Lecky, director of events for festival organizer Venture Richmond. “And audiences will get a sneak peek at Brown’s Island’s $30 million renovation.”
The free event serves as a platform to discover music performed with authenticity and heart from a kaleidoscopic range of sources, from Cherokee country to Korean rock and from the mountain hollows of Appalachia to the Cajun swamps. Whether it’s dancing to classic D.C. go-go or Puerto Rican bomba, nothing nourishes the world like music. This is Richmond’s great annual feast.
