In a mash-up of mime, performance art and vaudeville, puppeteers Teatro Hugo + Ines visit Gottwald Playhouse at the newly christened Dominion Arts Center from April 8 to 10, presented by the Modlin Center for the Arts.
Through the ingenious use of special costumes and props, they give separate life to their hands, feet, knees and elbows. Ines Pasic, a pianist from Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, met Lima, Peru, native Hugo Suarez while he was performing as a mime on the streets of Italy. Suarez inspired Pasic to study pantomime and they formed their “Teatro” in 1986.
In addition to performances, they will offer a free puppetry workshop at 1:30 p.m. on April 8 to give some pointers on how you, too, can try your hands (and feet) at this – for ages 8 and up. $20. 600 E. Grace St. 289-8980 or modlin.richmond.edu.
