A tradition for over 30 years, the Special Olympics Summer Games will bring more than 1,300 Virginia athletes ages 8 and older to Richmond on June 12 and 13. Besides the athletes, more than 3,000 volunteers help run the games. Logan Massey, who has been volunteering at the free event since she was 8 years old, now has 16 years under her belt. “I was homeschooled, so my mom wanted to expose me to those who may be different from me, but I didn’t see them as different,” she says. Richmonders are encouraged to come watch and cheer the athletes on. The Opening Ceremony starts on Friday at 7:45 p.m. at the University of Richmond’s Robins Center.
