Neosoul-hungry Richmonders are in luck: Songstress/songwriter Lauryn Hill is coming to The National on May 10.
Hill began her career with hip-hop group The Fugees in the early ’90s and is known most widely for her Grammy-winning 1998 solo album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.” Her latest work includes a stirring rendition of Nina Simone’s 1965 hit, “Feeling Good,” recorded for the “What Happened, Miss Simone?” film soundtrack in 2015.
Hill’s last performance here — at the Richmond Jazz Festival last summer — met with mixed reviews after some delays and sound glitches. But faithful fans should keep their ears tuned for her smoky vocals on her version of the classic “Killing Me Softly” and her songs “Everything Is Everything,” and “Just Like Water.” 8:30 p.m. $63. 612-1900 or thenationalva.com.
