Across Central and South America, it is customary to hold yearly celebrations called Fiestas Patronales in honor of each town's patron saint. South Richmond’s Sacred Heart Catholic Church joins that tradition with its annual RVA Latino Festival, set for June 4.
“This is something that the parish puts on with pride about their own culture,” says the Rev. Jack Podsiadlo, director of leadership and volunteer programs at the largely Hispanic church.
Everyone is invited to come play games, dance the salsa, merengue or bachata and try some roasted pork, tamales and pupusas. There will also be an opportunity to donate clothing for Ecuador’s earthquake victims. 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Free. 1400 Perry St. 230-4399 or shcrichmond.org.
