Baltimore native Ilana Puglia founded the Richmond-based Dogwood Dance Project with three other like-minded James Madison University dance graduates.
“We were in one way or another dance educators — I’m a full-time dance instructor in Chesterfield County,” she says, “so we rallied around the idea of a company with an educational program.”
The troupe often has youth ensembles and apprentices who plan to continue their dance education in college. On Jan. 9, Dogwood will hold its fifth anniversary concert at Dogtown Dance Theatre, featuring favorites from the past half-decade and work by guest artists. 2 and 7 p.m. $10. 109 W. 15th St. 230-8070 or dogwooddanceproject.weebly.com.
