A feature-length documentary about the 800 or more Russian Jews who came to Richmond a quarter-century ago premieres Nov. 10 at the University of Richmond’s Camp Concert Hall. Draw Back the Curtain caps three years of research and 8,500 volunteer hours. Shir Bodner, the director and a 2012 UR graduate, worked with professor and Soviet Russia historian David Brandenberger. “The film grew organically,” Bodner says. “Each step of the way, we learned what could make this a better project.” It includes interviews with more than 30 people from various Russian republics. (The screening is free, but tickets are required; visit drawbackthecurtain.richmond.edu.) A related exhibition will go up on Nov. 17 at the Congregation Beth Ahabah Museum and Archive.
