The Central Virginia Celtic Festival & Highland Games is more than bagpipes, beer, and big men and women throwing stuff; the event celebrates centuries-old Celtic culture. “It also raises funds for these charities such as the Cullather Brain Tumor Center,” says event organizer Stokes McCune.
Witness the heavy athletics, harp, fiddle, pipe and drum competitions, and hurling — a mix of rugby and field hockey. Say “Sláinte,” an Irish Gaelic toast, as you grab a pint of Guinness or participate in the whisky tasting ($25, including a take-home glass). Research your own lineage among the more than 50 Irish and Scottish clans in attendance. $15 to $30. Richmond Raceway Complex.
