This is art you can groove to. On Friday, March 25, Art Works presents “Let’s Dance,” a collaborative (and free) art event utilizing drawing, sculpture, photography and film to capture and document the movements of artists from Manchester’s Dogtown Dance Theatre.
The concept for this event began two years ago, when the RVA Dance Collective joined with the artists from Art Works for an art opening and exhibition.
Dogtown's Jess Burgess says, “Instead of it just being RVA Dance Collective this year, I wanted to expand to have it be a Dogtown event and showcase the other dance artists here.”
Along with RVA Dance, this year’s creative mix includes Host of Sparrows, Illumination Dance and Claves Unidos. The groups will perform a portion of their annual shows at the free and public opening reception, which begins at 7 p.m. Friday, with "Let's Dance" awards presented at 7:30 p.m. Also at Art Works are "I Saw the Light" by Deshia Williams, the monthly juried All Media Show (awards presented at 8:30 p.m. Friday) and the Earth Day-inspired Recycle Art Show (awards presented at 8:45 p.m.). Now that’s something worth kicking up your heels for.
Exhibitions continue through April 17. 320 Hull St. 291-1400 or artworksrichmond.com.
