This month brings cooler temperatures, fall festivals and the Richmond Theatre Critics Circle Awards, better known as the Artsies.
The ninth annual black-tie event recognizes the region’s outstanding professional theater productions and casts. The 2016 host, Desiree Roots, claimed last year’s award for Best Actress in a Musical, for her performance in “Caroline or Change.” This year’s program, to be held Oct. 17 at the November Theatre at Virginia Repertory Theatre, is themed “Our Theatre and Our Community.” Each of the nominees for Best Musical will perform, and all proceeds will benefit the Theatre Artists Fund.
