The University of Richmond’s ensemble-in-residence, Eighth Blackbird, might be the hottest thing in modern classical music right now. The adventurous sextet recently won its fourth Grammy award, copped a $400,000 MacArthur Foundation grant, and its sweeping “Hand Eye” recording — a vaunted collaboration with the composing collective Sleeping Giant — is due for release April 8.
The genre-defying musical unit returns to UR’s Modlin Center for the Arts with special guests the Matt Ulery Trio on April 13.
