Maybe it's a chance to celebrate the change of season. Maybe it's everything your heart desires. Maybe it's just an excuse to tease out your hair like it's 1985.
Whatever the case, Comfort is holding Get Out of My Dreams, Get Into My Bar, an '80s-themed night, on April 19, and you'd better believe there will be frozen drinks from beverage director Derek Salerno and bartender Gregg Brooks, plus era-appropriate edibles from chef Travis Milton. It starts at 7 p.m., and the $15 ticket includes entry and food like pudding pops, Count Chocula crème brûlée and "Steak-umm" sandwiches with Easy Cheese, all house-made.
And while the nostalgic fare might take you back a few years, the drinks are prime to take the spotlight.
"We are part of a pilot program with Hamilton Beach, testing one of their yet-unreleased industrial blenders. I joked that with two blenders, we could finally have a frozen drink night," says Salerno. "I mentioned it to Gregg Brooks, and he was very excited to participate. We have been discussing ideas for the night for several months."
These months-in-the-making frozen drinks include the Alcoholic Orange Julius (does it feel like you're a kid wandering the mall again?), banana and strawberry daquiris, piña coladas and a mango margarita with habanero-infused Cointreau.
In addition to those purveyors of sweet, boozy brain freeze, you'll also find Salerno's Jello-O shots of classic drinks like sazeracs, old fashioneds, hurricanes and mint juleps.
"If it goes well, we might have to do another one next year, or even this summer," says Salerno.
Limited, cash-only tickets will be available at the door, but you can always purchase them ahead of time online. And with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the YWCA's preschool nutrition program, it's an event we want to attend, time after time.
