This weekend holds several shopping must-stops. Here is your agenda.
Art 180’s Really Big Show takes place tomorrow from 1 to 4 p.m. This annual celebration of youth voices showcases visual and performing art. Along with art for viewing, there will of course be art for shopping. The Bizarre Market will be setting up a fun selection of jewelry, accessories, art and more.
Also tomorrow, Nellie George is hosting a Melo Melo Tackle trunk show. This delicate, 14-karat gold-plated jewelry seems to me like perfect graduation gift for any gal who is finishing high school this year.
Tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. Quirk Gallery is hosting a trunk show featuring Maslo Jewelry, Richmond Thread Lab and Awl Snap. I can’t get enough of Nicole Maslowski of Maslo Jewelry’s current collection featuring rope, curved bars and funky beads. In fact, I recently had to stop myself from buying her whole booth at the Richmond Craft Mafia’s Spring Bada-Bing event. Richmond Thread Lab features handmade men’s neckties and bowties … maybe you can grab a Father’s Day gift in between shopping for yourself. And Awl Snap Leather Goods sells locally made items including purses, clutches and even a leather coozie with a vintage bottle opener attached. All three designers share a studio space in Manchester.
If you’re looking for a sale, make sure to stop by Monkee’s in its new location at 5003 Huguenot Road. Last-pair shoe styles are 30 percent off, plus there are up to 50 percent markdowns on shoes, clothing and accessories.
For you early birds, Saturday from 8 to 11 a.m. is the Sierra Club's annual Big Yard Sale at the University of Richmond. The club collects donations and end-of-year leave-behinds from the UR community to sell. I have never made it to this one, but have heard there are fantastic deals to be had from accessories and furniture students left behind in apartments at the end of the school year.
