Second only to my endless search for the best new shimmer/glitter products is my quest for the perfect mascara. Some people just want lengthening mascara, others want volume, I’ve always said I need it ALL! I want the product that makes it look like I have fake eyelashes when I just have mascara on, and I want to wear it everyday. This “workday” lash thing where you choose a subtler or — gasp! — brown variety for daytime is for the birds. I want long, lush lashes, and I want them all the time. There. Eyelash rant done.
Anyway, a few months ago, I read an article about Carrie Underwood saying that although she often wears fake lashes, when she doesn’t, she layers mascaras. She starts with a lengthening variety, then adds a volumizing formula, then finishes with a separating lash lacquer. As I read it, I thought, "How has this never occurred to me?" I only have eighteen thousand different mascaras covering my dresser at home. I apply multiple coats of one mascara, why wouldn’t I mix varieties for the perfect lash look? Since then, I’ve been doing some experimenting, and think I’ve found a great combination.
Right now, I start by curling my lashes, then I add a coat of L’Oréal Telescopic lengthening mascara. If you haven’t tried this variety, go get it now. It makes lashes unbelievably long. Next, I add a coat of Too Faced Lash Injection (thinking I may sub this for my beloved Benefit BADgal Lash next time I re-stock) to thicken the lashes I’ve already lengthened. Finally, I wrap it all up with a coating of Maybelline Great Lash — a model-favorite mascara I’ve never been particularly impressed with. It seems to work well for separating and finishing, though, and it’s a bargain. Voila, envy-worthy eyelashes. Do you have a favorite mascara I should try adding to the the mix? Let me know!
