Wannabe Beckhams and Ronaldos, take note: The next big thing is Volley Futbol — at least if Richmond soccer coach Brandon Wright (below center) has anything to do with it. A new game he has developed involving a 15-by 30-foot field and a three-foot net, it looks like tennis using a soccer ball and your feet, and hones ball judgment, thigh control, volleying skills and heading techniques. Wright is spreading the word at local parks and events, but “we want to grow it nationally and globally,” he says, adding a tour of major U.S. cities is in the works. Get in on the game before it gets big at Wright’s inaugural Volley Futbol tournament on July 26 at Ukrop Park from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Players can register online at volley-futbol.com.
