If you can't find a particular item you're looking for at Carytown's Cabell House (3101 Ellwood Ave., 314-3521 or cabellhouseshop.com ), put it on your wish list. The 3,500-square-foot store, which opened in late August, keeps a ledger for such requests up front, and they'll let you know if it comes in. The shop offers a true mix of items — old and new, blending antique charm with restored modernity. "Many pieces have handmade touches, making everything unique," says owner Debbie Suter, adding that the shop will get any piece of furniture refurbished for customers, from changing the color to structural repairs. Inventory changes daily, and items come from as far away as Palm Beach, Fla., and as close to home as Richmond.
