The Richmond Symphony’s big tent, used during the 2015 UCI Road World Championships, will travel to Church Hill and Jackson Ward this month. From May 6 to 8, it’ll serve as shelter for the RVA East End Festival, a series of musical performances in Chimborazo Park, starting with the No BS Brass Band, vocalist Desiree Roots and the symphony.
From May 20 to 22, the tent will go up at Abner Clay Park for the Celebrate Jackson Ward Festival. Both events are free, but donations will be solicited.
Proceeds from the Chimborazo festival will go toward purchasing musical instruments and materials for East End schools; the Jackson Ward festival will benefit the Friends Association for Children, the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia and Carver Elementary School. 788-4717, rvaeastendfest.com or richmondsymphony.com.
